Now Playing! American Pickers

Traveling across the bumpy, back roads of the United States in their white van, we watch Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz call on strangers to buy their hidden treasures. My husband was intently watching a rerun of American Pickers one lazy afternoon. I found myself caught up in this particular episode as well.

As I watched, I reminisced about a project back in design school. A group of us designed a children’s outdoor playhouse for auction where the proceeds went to Habitat for Humanity. The challenge was to design it using reclaimed items for the build.

On one of our endeavors searching for cool junk like Mike and Frank, I happened on some old tin ceiling tiles. I “picked” four with a great pattern. At home, I painted them, and hung them on a large wall for my art. The texture and color was breathtaking.

We completed our Habitat for Humanity playhouse and it among others raised great proceeds! Community involvement can have amazing impact. Check out Kincaid Furniture Company who is currently partnered with Habitat for Humanity. Their Homecoming collections support Habitat directly!
